Associates Research Trust Uganda (ART-U) is a legally registered research trust under the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and a non-profit organisation in Uganda since 2013.
Our mission
Our mission is to promote equity and justice for vulnerable populations through data-driven research that informs policies and practices in the land, agriculture, extractives, and natural resource sectors.
Our goal
Our goal is to elevate traditional knowledge and practices of local communities by co-creating evidence-based research solutions to contemporary challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource extraction affecting land and resource rights of vulnerable groups.
Our Values and Ethics
At the core of our research processes lies a deep commitment to ethical integrity and community collaboration. We uphold and enforce Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), ensuring that all involved in our research—whether they are data sources, collectors, analysts, or end-users—are actively engaged in ethical interactions.
Our dedication to inclusivity drives us to respect and amplify the voices of the most vulnerable populations, recognising their perspectives as essential for creating meaningful and impactful research solutions. We blend social sensitivity with rigorous academic standards to generate valuable research insights based on trust.
Our research is grounded in strong ethical standards that uphold the dignity and rights of all involved. By adhering to these principles, we aim to produce reliable and contextually relevant outcomes that genuinely reflect the lived realities of communities.
We are committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that our methods respect and reciprocate with participants. In our pursuit of knowledge, we strive to protect the integrity and autonomy of impacted groups, actively involving them in co-creating research solutions.
